January Journal Prompts
Starting anew in the depths of winter is poetic to me. It’s easy to start when the sun is out and the temperature is warm. It’s much harder to start when the snow and darkness are in your way. Some say the real start of the year is September, but that doesn’t absolve us of the new year beginning in January.
January makes me think about my existence, because what else would I think about in my birthday month? But it also reflects to me the book that is left to be written. It’s a new year, how will we define ourselves in this rotation around the sun? I hope the following journal prompts will help you and me explore that feeling.
How will you make this year different from last year?
List five things you want to do this year that have nothing to do with improving yourself.
What is one area of your life you want to improve and what steps will you take towards improving it?
What is something new you want to try but haven’t yet? What is holding you back from trying?
In the Midwest, January is an endless winter. How can you bring some sun to the endless winter?
Is there a habit you’ve been trying to implement? What is hard about implementing it and what can you do to make it easier?
Which of your New Year’s resolutions do you hope to stick to the most?
What small thing can you do this month to make your year better?
