My thoughts on love
I always used to tell myself that the best things in life require the most work. I wrote it down on paper and hung it in my room when I was 17.
I didn’t realize then that the most important work would be on myself.
Finding myself has been the most rewarding thing. I thought I needed other people to tell me who I was, but it was within me this whole time.
This week, I want to talk about the most important relationship in my life and in yours. The relationship you have with yourself. But more than that, I want to talk about love.
I didn’t show myself the love that I deserved for almost my whole life. I thought that love was an external source. I didn’t need to love myself, I needed other people to love me. I thought love was a limited source that I only had access to when I was acting the “right” way.
I’ve seen people say that people can’t love you until you love yourself but that’s wrong. You deserve to be loved where you are. You deserve to love where you are. Love is already within you.
Love actually is all around.
I had to drop a rom-com quote in here, sorry not sorry. But the movie was correct, love is not limited, it’s everywhere.
It’s in me. It’s in the trees. It’s in the sky. It’s in you. It’s in the way the sun hits your face. It’s in the sound of the ocean waves crashing into rocks. It’s in the silence.
Love is not a limited external source. We are living and breathing within love.
There is no right way to act for love to find us because it finds us every day.
Love finds me in my sadness, in my joy, in my mistakes, in my wrong-doings, in my good days, in my bad days, it even finds me in the street. It finds me in small acts and quiet whispers but also in loud screams and roaring winds. It finds me in chirping birds, and in stray cats, and in butterflies floating by.
Love finds me in my best friends. In between laughter, farmer’s markets, street festivals, concerts, and movie nights I see the tendrils of love that bond us together.
Love finds me in music that cuts through to the heart, in movies that make me cry, in books that make me swoon, and in the people I see walking past. Love finds me in writing, it finds me in poetry, it finds me in the old versions of myself, and it keeps finding me.
Love finds me. I do not have to look for it, I don’t have to work hard for it at all. Love comes to me because I am made of love. You are made of love. We are made of love.
It took me a long time to accept that everything I’ve always wanted has been within me this whole time. I thought perhaps I was looking in all the wrong places, love must be out there somewhere. My mistake was looking outward for what needed to be found inward.
Accepting that I am made of love means that I do not have to go searching for it. It means I don’t have to accept less than. It means I can act from a place of love, not from a place of fear.
How does love find you?
